Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell works as a journalist at NBC News based out of Washington D.C. Mitchell has an undergraduate degree in English from University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began as a radio and TV reporter at KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia, KYW Radio and TV. She became a reporter for the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV, (then WTOP), which was based in Washington DC. A few years later, she was a general reporter for NBC News in Washington. Beginning in 1981, she began working for the White House and became chief Congress correspondent in 1988. In 1992, she was named the Chief White House Correspondent and in 1994 was appointed chief foreign affairs reporter for NBC News. Mitchell was the host and panelist for the TV news program Meet the Press. She served on a panel for the 1988 debates between George Bush (then president) as well as Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the spouse of Alan Greenspan who was former chairman at Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in 2005, which was awarded by the John F. Kennedy School of Government. The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded Mitchell Leonard Zeidenberg Award in 2004 for her role in protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was a reporter at the White House first for NBC News between the years 1981-88, which was in the two years that Ronald Reagan served as president. Her reporting included a number of crucial stories such as the Iran-contra affair, the tax reform and the budget in addition to the arms control. She traveled extensively together with President Reagan during summits with Mikhail Gorbachev.
